Media Accepted:

Recording Lair can accept Radar DVD Ram, 16 or 20 bit ADAT tapes.

  Media Preparation:
  1. Buy a high quality DVD Ram. Maxell and Panasonic are great.
  2. If you are bringing us a project on DVD Ram for the Radar, please have all tracks and projects or songs labeled.
  3. Buy a high quality ADAT tape. HHB and Maxell are two of our favorites.
  4. Record your music at as high a level as possible on every track, without hitting overs.
  5. Leave at least 10 seconds (preferably 20 seconds or more) between songs.
  6. Mark on each tape the project name, which tracks are on the tape (1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32 or 33-40), and from which set of tapes (if there is more than one set)
  Documentation:

Each song should have its own track sheet. Track sheets should include:

If there is more than one take of an instrument, mark clearly which track is the correct one.

If you are unable to be present for the mix-down session, write down any effects you would like. (Example: Voice turns into a radio type voice at 14:23 until 14:52)

  Communicate!

COMMUNICATE YOUR GOAL: If you are going after a certain sound, send us a CD of that type of sound.

DO NOT COUNT ON "FIXING IT IN THE MIX"! Mixing can greatly shape the sound of an instrument, however. Converting a bad sound into a better sound can take a great deal of time and will not be as good as a well recorded sound to begin with. We have the ability to do everything from control tone and dynamics, to the ability to put an out of tune voice or solo instrument in tune.
